Job Start Scheme at Desmond Motors

We are excited to announce we have joined the Job Start Scheme, creating 6 brand new roles within our company to help young people gain transferable employment skills, but to offer a unique opportunity to progress in a career in the Motor Industry.

We currently have 6 positions available in Derry~Londonderry and Omagh.  

Each job is completely new so it is an unique opportunity for someone to really make it there own.  Opportunities to secure full-time or permanent employment from this opportunity is based on the successful candidates performance.

We have created 2x Junior Valeter positions 1x Junior Sales Executive, A showroom host (Closed), Junior Motability Specialist and a Junior Parts Advisor position to give a variety of customer facing roles across the company.

About JobStart Scheme

JobStart is a new scheme, run by the Department for Communities, to help young people who are at risk of long term unemployment, aged 16 – 24 years, get into the job market by offering six month job opportunities with a range of employers, in all sectors across Northern Ireland.

It will help you develop your employment skills so that by the end of the six months you may:

  • be offered a job by the employer
  • have the skills and experience to help you find another job
  • progress into further education or training opportunities

Who can take part

If you receive Universal Credit talk to your Work Coach about the JobStart scheme and whether it’s right for you.  You can do this through your online journal or by phone. 

If you receive Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support, contact a Work Coach on 0300 200 7807  for more information.

If you’re not receiving benefit, you must be between 18 – 24 years to take part in the JobStart Scheme.  You should contact the JobStart Branch within the Department for Communities on 0300 200 7807 to find out more.

The first job opportunities should be available from May 2021.

By taking part in the JobStart scheme you’ll:

  • How much you’ll get paid
  • increase your confidence
  • get a six-months paid job opportunity
  • develop your employment skills and skills you wouldn’t learn in a classroom
  • enhance your CV and future job prospects
  • learn important work skills such as teamwork, problem solving and communication skills
  • During the JobStart scheme you’ll receive at least the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours per week.  Your employer may choose to offer you additional hours. 

Any training you need will also be covered along with other costs such as any uniforms or Personal Protective Equipment you may need.
