Lorry mechanic, motorbike racer and television presenter Guy Martin does around 40 thousand miles a year in his Ford Transit. He’s driven all sorts of fandango cars and motorbikes but the Transit has been his everyday vehicle for the last 15 years. So he’s teamed up with MS-RT, in the UK, to make the Guy Martin Proper® Edition.
“I suppose I almost live in my van really.” Says Guy Martin. “Going to work, picking up lorry parts, motorbikes and pushbikes in the back, Nigel the dog on the passenger seat. I often sleep in it if I’m away racing or on a filming job and want a bit of time on my own. So I’ve had a fair bit of time to work out what I’d change, make better and more usable for the driver. I didn’t want something that was going to look like it could take on Usain Bolt but no use to someone working, so it’s available across the range of Transits. I wanted it to be practical and add little touches to make it an improvement. The MS-RT boys have done just that, it’s Proper.”
Things like, the headlights on the Tranny weren’t the sharpest tools in the box, the lining pack in the back wasn’t the toughest, you can get stuck in the mud on a farm yard with standard tyres, the seats were ok but they get tatty and covered in all sorts of oil and grease, I couldn’t stand on the grill to clean the top of the windscreen and I wanted access to the front of the cab from behind the bulkhead.
I wanted it to look understated but cool, without screaming at you. Those who know will know what it is.”
100% endorsed by the man himself, this strictly limited-edition transit stands out on the road and handles all you throw at it. With the advanced Ford EcoBlue 2.0L TDCi diesel engines at its core, enjoy market-leading performance with the security of the “Roll Stability Control” system keeping the tyres nicely grounded.
